About me

Who are you? I'm Dragos Ionita, and in 2011, I've gotten a „Software Technology“ MSc. at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, where I've had the pleasure of meeting a lot of smart and inspiring people. We've looked at functional programming (mainly Haskell), compilers, type systems, and lots of other related topics. For my graduation project I've done research on program specialization in ESPranto, a language designed for embedded systems control that relies heavily on static verification.

In 2008 – a few months after graduating from the Bucharest University – I left Romania looking for better opportunities in Italy, where I worked for a while on a PHP back-end system for a VoIP services company.

In 2004 I started developing Web applications professionally, using PHP and Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Flash and ActionScript to create interactive interfaces. The company where I worked, formerly Firedive Interactive, won an Internetics prize in 2005 for a project on which I contributed heavily. Later, I started together with a co-founder a different initiative in e-commerce software at BeOpen Software. Throughout 2004–2008 I've also worked for various clients as a freelancer, including Prima TV, Tempest Freerunning, etc.

What is important to you?
Living healthily, adventure, being in touch with Computer Science, the Web and Science in general, my friends and my family.

What are your areas of interest?
Compilers, formal methods, type systems, (static) program verification, programming languages, bidirectionalization, web development, databases.

What is The Fusion Blog?
It's a project that started a few years ago, but which has received only sporadic attention. I try to write things that reflect my nature and my way of thinking.

Why is it called „The Fusion“?
If in doubt, when registering to a website, the default nickname I pick is „fusion5“ (for lack of a better one), which led me to choosing the Fusion Blog as a hopefully memorable brand name, which is also connected to other online identities.

What do you like?
Other people, writing, reading Science and Science-Fiction books – the favorites are Rama, the Foundation series, Ender's Game and many more, playing the guitar (to the annoyance of others). I am a skeptic, in the sense that with rigorous proof I can be convinced of just about anything. My favorite music includes The Doors, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Queen, U2, Electronic DJ music and Classical music: Bach, Glenn Gould, Mozart.

Where else can you be found?
LinkedIn, Flickr, and on Tutorialpedia. Tutorialpedia is a collection of technical knowledge, where anyone can improve content (similar to a wiki), a website mainly developed and maintained by me.
